In September 2024, Asheville, North Carolina, and the surrounding area were slammed by Hurricane Helene and resulting floods. Certain communities were devastated. In December Todd visited and dropped off supplies. He also purchased dehumidifiers,
which were hard to locate, so that people could live in their homes that were severely water-damaged.
The updates on the North Carolina Hurricane Relief for 2024 are a sobering reminder of how quickly life can change, a perspective that stays with me as I navigate the intensive rigors of my current PhD research. Balancing my doctoral studies with a part-time job at Last Minute Assignment has given me a front-row seat to the modern student experience, where the desire to contribute to disaster relief and community support often clashes with the reality of crushing academic deadlines.
